Sidney Middle School Physical Education Class Performed Analysis
Dale Beckwith's students at the Sidney Middle Schoool worked over the results of the USPP Time Trial for 2008. They sorted the contestants best rides of the season and figures out there average speed. Below is a link to the table that they produced. Many thanks to them and to Dale!
14 Riders started and 14 finished. Another joined for part of the middle of the ride. The slide show below is a combination of photos that I took on Friday Sept 19th when I pedaled the route solo and on Sunday Sept 21st when I drove the sag wagon.
I had a clearer dryer day with some headwinds on the way to Schenevus and also going out toward Prattsville. I started later, 10:30 AM and ended later, 8 PM than the Sunday group. The Sunday group left the start just about 8 AM and everyone was done by 5:30 PM - The first group to pull in to the parking lot must have got there close to 3 PM.
What: USPP Fall Century Ride - The Four County Century
When: Meet on Winney Hill Rd at North St in Oneonta, Sunday September 21st 7:30 AM for 8:00 AM departure.
Who: USPP Members and Friends
Donation: $5 per per person for gas and snacks to be carried in sag wagon.
Note: All riders will have to wear helmets and sign the waiver.
The route is interesting and at times challenging. We start out going NE along the Susquehanna on NYS 7and then continue on NYS along the Schenevus Creek till we reach Schenevus then we head over into Delaware County and climb over the hills to the Charlotte Creek valley. We follow NYS 23 across into the Delaware River valley and further into the Schoharie Creek valley. Our furthest point from home is Grand Gorge.
We start back along the Schoharie but then climb up to Jefferson and then down to the Charlotte Creek which we follow back to Oneonta along NYS 23. The route is listed on the cue sheet below.
We would like to have some idea of how much food to get in the way of fruit and snacks. If you know that you are going please drop us a line.
We hope to see you there to enjoy some wonderful late summer / fall scenery. Scroll down to view cue sheet.

USPP members have a great time pedaling the roads and paddling the rivers of the Upper Susquehanna area. The Susquehanna River begins at Otsego Lake and we generally take the Upper Susquehanna area to mean Otsego, Delaware and Chenango Counties. Our Fall Century Bicycle Ride sometimes takes us into Schoharie and Madison Counties, but we reserve the right to go further if our sense of adventure lures us on.
We sponsor a Spring Canoe Race in April each year. We have bicycle time trials and hill climbs April through September. In September we have a century bicycle ride. In the winters we sometimes get together for some cross country skiing. Check the newsletters link below for details to recent and upcoming events.
